Biography
Meet Chloe Alder. Her areas of practice include Animal Law, Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Medical and Veterinary Malpractice, and Family Law. Chloe has worked at Pickard Law since her second year in law school.
Chloe moved to Colorado from Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2021 and graduated law school in May 2024 with a specialized certificate in Animal Law. Chloe grew up in rural Indiana (Evansville/Newburgh area). During her undergraduate career, Chloe gained legal experience at criminal defense and legal aid firms in Indianapolis. Chloe has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Legal Studies from Indiana University. She graduated with many honors and distinctions and as a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Immediately upon graduating, Chloe headed for law school on scholarship.
Chloe is passionate about social justice and animal rights. She advocates for the vulnerable members of our society. She is particularly passionate about animal rights, helping the unhoused, expanding access to addiction services, and fighting discrimination. Additionally, she is passionate about improving the jail and prison systems and addressing incarceration rates and sentence minimums. Further, she enjoys working with kids and is invested in doing what she can to ensure that detainees have access to quality education, particularly juveniles and adults without GEDs or diplomas. She is an advocate who is always interested in hearing your policy ideas, ballot measures, and legislative bill proposals. Further, she dedicates time to volunteering in her community. As to family law, Chloe has a unique background that may serve clients well. As a child of divorce herself, she believes family law is one of the most important fields of law because families shape people. She plans on working to keep families together, fighting for parenting time when necessary, and helping incarcerated individuals navigate the difficult field when such is presented.
In addition to fighting for people, Chloe is involved in the animal rights community of the Denver area. She served as the Vice President of her law school’s Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for two years and as a General Board Member for one. Further, she participated in the school’s Animal Activist Legal Defense Project, a clinical program involving criminal cases around the country, gaining experience defending all sorts of different animal rights activists. She is an advocate for litigation around the US that protects animals in agricultural settings, eliminates factory farming and ag-gag laws, and protects companion animals. She is interested in working to eliminate dog breed bans and other discriminatory laws in place that can harm both the pets and those who rely on animals for assistance or service related to their disabilities. Chloe is passionate about litigation and trial, and she participated in the Student Trial Lawyers Association on campus.
During law school, Chloe served as the Vice President of the Children’s Legal Advocacy Group. Additionally, she has a lot of experience working with children as a student teacher in high schools and middle schools in the Indianapolis Public School system, as a YMCA Site Director for summer camps, and as a camp counselor for years, including here in Denver at the Urban Farm in 2021, where she was also able to work with animals.
She has also been involved in her law school’s Public Interest Law Group on campus as Treasurer and Community Service Chair and as a Representative. Post-Dobbs, she participated in her school’s If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice group as Treasurer. In addition, she was one of her law school class’s Criminal Law Association Representatives. She also participated in her school’s Food Law Society. During her first year, she spent time learning eviction law during the height of COVID-19 with the Public Good Program on campus.
She and her husband Jake have two dogs– a Pembroke Welsh corgi and a Siberian husky mix. She plans on eventually adding more little paws and feet to her family. She is an avid reader and a Shakespeare enthusiast. She and her husband are skiers and love spending time outdoors. Chloe also loves to keep up with pop culture and Netflix shows.
